"Alianza de Mujeres" comes from a women's coffee alliance in Chirinos District of Peru. An outgrowth of the Association of Agricultural Producers Emprendimientos, this women's group has been operating since 2022 under the leadership of a woman named Bety Toro Lozno. The alliance aims to bridge market access directly to female farmers in Chirinos, and has grown to more than 200 members in its first two years.
The farms range in altitude from 1800 to 1900 meters above sea level. Most farmers are growing a mix of cultivars, which typically include some combination of Caturra, Bourbon, Typica, Pache, and Catimor. Farmers have been trained to pick and process the varieties separately as a quality control measure, and this lot is a mix of Pache (natural mutation of Typica), and Catimor.
This is a fully washed, "wet process" coffee, meaning the cherries are depulped, and the seeds are then fermented and washed in water to remove the sticky layer of mucilage. The coffee is dried on patios for up to 2 weeks in order to get the moisture down to roughly 11% before performing the final preparation for export.
