Description:
This lot is crafted using Finca Milan “Culturing” fermentation where the coffee is fermented with pineapple and mangosteen oils alongside selected microorganisms under restricted oxygen for 144 hours. After fermentation this lot was slowly sun dried for 30 days. The controlled fermentation leverages the activity of yeasts and bacteria to trigger complex metabolic reactions, resulting in a bright, tropical cup with floral notes and a uniquely expressive flavor profile.
Located in the village of Betulia, Finca Milán has been producing all types of coffee since 1982, including Pink Bourbon, Caturra, Colombia, Castillo Naranjal, and Catiope. This is where Julio Madrid and Julio Andrés Quiceno developed unique processing methods, such as “Culturing” and “Nitro” fermentations. The farm protects three natural water springs and features biological corridors with native guadua bamboo. They have secured multiple national -and international- level speciality-coffee awards, including Gold and Silver Cups in Colombia, and top placements in competitions across countries such as South Korea, Australia, Sweden and China. These achievements have cement Finca Milán’s reputation as a leading innovator in processing excellence and high-scoring micro-lot coffees.
Finca Milán represents a model of innovation and sustainability in specialty coffee, blending scientific precision with ecological responsibility. By pioneering advanced fermentation methods, the farm pushes the boundaries of flavor development while maintaining traceability and quality at every stage. At the same time, their environmental practices — such as protecting natural water springs, maintaining forest and bamboo corridors, and nurturing soil health through organic matter and minimal chemical use — demonstrate a holistic approach that values both biodiversity and long-term farm resilience. In essence, Finca Milán stands as a benchmark for how modern coffee producers can elevate cup quality through experimentation while honoring Colombia’s natural ecosystems and agricultural heritage.
Artist and Limited Print Description:
As some of you may know, our Head Roaster Tommy used to work as a photographer, and now, in addition to roasting, he also does all of the photography and graphics for Second Spin Roasting Co. Before we pass the bucket to other artists, we wanted to shout-out our very own, and showcase the hard-work he's put into everything you see here! - This graphic was inspired by a new movement in art, and a change in the way art was represented, like our coffee that is showcased here is aptly named "NG" as in "New Generation" that represents the new generation of coffee producers. He hoped to represent the florality of the coffee, and the color palate of the season with this collage style print.
