Burundi may be one of Africa’s smaller coffee-producing countries, but it has earned a strong reputation for vibrant, fruit-forward coffees, with much of the country’s coffee being Bourbon, a variety known for its sweetness, clarity, and lively acidity. This community lot comes through the Masha Washing Station, which works with more than 2,500 smallholder farmers from the surrounding community.
For this microlot, carefully selected cherries undergo anaerobic fermentation before being naturally processed, intensifying the coffee’s sweetness and fruit character. The result is a bright, juicy cup with notes reminiscent of orange soda, ripe peach, raspberry, limeade, and honey. A silky body and clean finish keep the fruit-forward profile balanced, making it an excellent choice for both hot filter coffee and flash-brewed iced coffee.
